Dental Implants

Treatment with Dental Implants

Stages in replacement of a front tooth with a Dental Implant: A space is gently prepared in the jaw bone in stages. An implant is fitted and a cover screw placed. When the implant has healed, the implant is exposed and a healing collar placed which shapes the gum (sometimes the healing collar is placed at the time of implant insertion).  An abutment is placed in the implant and a crown is then fitted on the abutment.

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and are made of special material which allows the bone to heal around them. We have over 20 years of experience having successfully placed thousands of implants. Implants are placed in the bone where the roots of the teeth used to be. Where insufficient bone remains, special techniques (Bone Augmentation) have been developed to increase the amount of bone which allows implant treatment to go ahead.

Dental implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth or where patients have no teeth at all; they can be used to provide a fixed bridge or to make a loose denture more stable.

Implant Care

Following the placement of an implant it is important to keep the surrounding area clean. Use a 45 degree angle as the standard brushing technique. Use plastic coated interdental brushes for safe and effective plaque removal. Tightly floss approximal surfaces and implants. Ensure all surfaces are clean. Adapt floss or tape for teeth and gums.
