Initial Consultation: This is usually a 45 minute appointment during which an examination will be carried out and if necessary radiographs taken. A diagnosis will be made and a treatment plan prepared. If the treatment plan is complex, a more detailed scan (CAT SCAN) may be required and the patient will be informed of this. A written treatment plan will be sent to the patient and dentist within two weeks of the appointment. We can normally schedule new patient appointments within 2 weeks. We also make every effort to accommodate special situations that require more urgent examination and treatment such as pain and discomfort.

Hygienist visits: The hygienist will work with you towards improving your gum condition. She will be showing you how to adjust your cleaning techniques to control the deposits of bacteria that are responsible for gum disease. It would be helpful for you to bring with any toothbrush or cleaning aids (except water jet devices) that you are using to your first appointment.

At your first visit, oral hygiene will be discussed and root planing will be started. Root planing is a finer type of scaling that involves removing bacterial deposits and smoothing the root surface below the gum where the gum disease is progressing. A surface anaesthetic cream is usually applied to reduce any discomfort but local anaesthetic (as with a filling) is also available.

The visits for root planing are 45 minutes long. Your oral hygiene will be reviewed each time you attend and appropriate advice given. There will be a number of these visits usually with 1-2 week breaks in between until all the deposits are removed and you are maintaining a good standard of oral hygiene. Thereafter patients are seen by Dr Sidi to review their progress and further treatment prescribed.
